It aims to identify and remove barriers and inequities affecting undergraduate and graduate students involved in research, postdoctoral fellows and academic and non-academic staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through this work, Dimensions seeks to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>support equitable access to funding opportunities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>increase equitable and inclusive participation in the research ecosystem; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>embed equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) considerations in research design and practices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dimensions addresses barriers and discrimination experienced by equity-deserving groups across all disciplines and at Canadian postsecondary institutions, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>women and gender-equity-seeking groups;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Inuit and M\u00e9tis);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>persons with disabilities;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>members of racialized groups; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/equity\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/152\/2026\/10\/Dimensions-Charter-Endorsement_CarletonUniversity.pdf\">Carleton endorses the Dimensions Charter<\/a> and adopts its principles designed to achieve greater research excellence, innovation and creativity in higher education through EDI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carleton\u2019s Dimensions application comes at an opportune time, as the university\u2019s five-year EDI Action Plan concludes and its progress is reviewed. While Dimensions focuses primarily on the research ecosystem, Carleton will integrate its Dimensions plan with a new university-wide EDI strategic plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"about-the-dimensions-program\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Dimensions Program <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program has two components:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dimensions Charter:<\/strong> Canadian postsecondary institutions are encouraged to endorse the Dimensions Charter as part of their commitment to advancing EDI within their institutions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dimensions Recognition:<\/strong> Postsecondary institutions can apply for recognition based on the actions they have taken to build the foundations for transformational change and advance EDI within their institutional research culture.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"recognition-stages\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recognition Stages <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Dimensions recognition program has four stages reflecting an institution\u2019s progress in advancing EDI:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stage 1: Foundation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage 2: Construction<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage 3: Consolidation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stage 4: Transformation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Learn more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/nserc-crsng.canada.ca\/en\/equity-diversity-and-inclusion-17#s1\">Dimensions recognition stages<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"next-steps-at-carleton\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Steps at Carleton<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities (EIC) is partnering with the Carleton <a href=\"https:\/\/research.carleton.ca\/about-us\/ovprii\/coris\/\">Office for Research Initiatives and Services <\/a>(CORIS) to establish the Terms of Reference for the Self-Assessment Team that will guide the Dimensions project at Carleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Contact the <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities<\/strong> (<a href=\"mailto:equity@carleton.ca\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">equity@carleton.ca<\/a>) for more information.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Carleton University is participating in Dimensions: Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Canada (Dimensions), an initiative of the Tri-Agency EDI Action Plan led by the Canada Research Coordinating Committee (CRCC).
