Mengyao Wu is a first-year MASc student co-supervised by Professor Richard Yu and Peter Liu in the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering. His research interest is Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs). He joined the Carleton-Ericsson University Partnership to pursue his graduate studies as an Ericsson Fellow in September 2020.
Since Mengyao was 10 years-old, his dream has been to become a scientist or an engineer. This dream has played an important influence in his study and career decisions. He started the Bachelor of Engineering at Carleton in 2015. After two years of study, He achieved excellent academic performance in his first two years and became eager to work in industry as an engineer. This led to his participation in the Carleton University Co-op program which enabled him to work as a Test Automation Developer at Irdeto Ottawa from April to August 2017. Later during his Co-op program, he worked as Embedded Software Developer for 14 months at Ericsson Ottawa from May 2018 to June 2019. During the 14-month Co-op at Ericsson, Mengyao contributed to the software development for Ericsson’s 4G/5G Indoor Radio Products. This working experience inspired Mengyao to think further into his career goal. As a result, he repositioned himself to be either a researcher at a technology company or a professor. This has led to his decision to pursue graduate studies. In June 2020, Mengyao officially obtained his B.Eng. at Carleton and was awarded Senate Medal for his excellent academic performance during his undergraduate study. Now Mengyao is pursuing his graduate study under the collaboration between Carleton University and Ericsson.
