Apply for a Winter Bursary: January deadlines
For students who started ESP in September
ESP is happy to announce that we have a few winter bursaries available. These bursaries were established to help support students with workshop fees and educational expenses.
- What: This is a bursary award of $1000 for this term. A bursary is a grant that is awarded based on financial need. Unlike loans, you do not need to repay bursaries. There are 5 bursaries available.
- When: Deadline extended to January 22nd at midnight
- Who: This will be awarded to 6 current ESP/IESP students who are in need of financial assistance this term.
- Criteria: Priority will be given to students with strong attendance and academic performance, and who have not received a Carleton University bursary this academic year.
- Note: This bursary is intended for students who started ESP in the fall term.
For students who started ESP in January
New January students should use the General Bursary Application in Carleton Central.

Academic Coaching starts this week
Our ESP Academic Coaches are excited to meet with you starting this week.
- ESP students can meet with coaches once every week. Appointments are 55 minutes in length.
- If you need more than one appointment a week, please email academic.coaching@carleton.ca with your request 48 hours in advance.
- Coaches can:
- help you get organized for the term ahead
- work on reading and study strategies
- strengthen your writing
- help with procrastination and test anxiety
- … and so much more!
Please help us ensure we are reaching as many students as possible. If you need to cancel your appointment, please notify us at least 12 hours in advance.

Deadline for course changes: January 20
The deadline to request a change to this term’s courses is this Friday, January 20 by 4:00 pm. You cannot change courses yourself, so you’ll want to make an appointment with an advisor right away for help. Email us if you have any trouble finding a time esp.advising@carleton.ca.

Looking for work? Virtual career fairs January 17 & 25
If you’re looking for part-time or summer work, there are two career fairs coming up that you should check out:
City of Ottawa Career Fair
- Who: The City of Ottawa in partnership with ImmigrantsCAN, settlement organizations and community partners are organizing this
- What: Virtual Career Fair for High School, College and University students. Over 500 paid positions available with employers including the City of Ottawa HR, Federal Government of Canada, Province of Ontario, Private Corporations and Non-profit enterprises.
- When: January 17th from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm.
- Register: Event is virtual (Zoom); register at https://immigrantscan.org/youth-hub.
Carleton’s Winter Career Fair
- Who: Organized by Carleton’s career services
- What: Virtual Winter Career Fair for current students and alumni. Explore full-time, part-time, summer, and co-op opportunities and browse current job openings.
- Discover a range of organizations to see if you would be a good match. Review employers alphabetically or by degree. Employers will continue to be added in the lead up to the event.
- When: Wednesday, January 25 from 10:00-4:00
- Register: on the online platform Brazen.
Reminder: Many employers will be accepting resumes at the fairs! If you need assistance with your resume prior to the fair, please book a virtual resume review appointment with Career Services by emailing career@carleton.ca. You can also attend a virtual Prepare for the Fair event on January 19 or January 20 to have your resume reviewed via Zoom or ask any questions about navigating the Career Fair (register on the mySuccess Co-op and Careers Workshops and Events Calendar).

Summer courses
Applying to a degree
To apply for a program, come in and meet with an Academic Advisor.
Deadlines:
- March 1st: Architecture, Engineering, Computer Science, Humanities, Industrial Design, Information Technology (Interactive Multimedia and Design), Journalism, Music and Social Work.
- June 1st: This is the general deadline for all remaining programs, including all in the Bachelor of Arts (such as Criminology, English, Psychology, Sociology and so on), Business, Economics, Global and International Studies, Cognitive Science, Science, etc.

Withdrawal deadline: January 31
The financial withdrawal deadline is January 31st. You can withdraw from courses up until March 15, but January 31st is the last date to withdraw and receive a refund of winter term fees.
You need to request a withdrawal from an academic advisor either by email: esp.advising@carleton.ca or by booking an appointment (link below).
