ESP/IESP update on the Winter Term

Dear ESP and IESP Students,

Carleton has made the decision to shift to online operation for the first three weeks of the Winter semester, in response to the evolving public health situation regarding COVID-19 and the latest variant, Omicron.

This means that all of the ESP/IESP workshops and first year seminars will be online, and all of our staff and faculty will be working remotely during the first three weeks of the Winter semester.

Workshops and first year seminars that were offered in person this term, will run online and SYNCHRONOUSLY (at the scheduled time) through video links on Brightspace. Your Workshop Facilitators and First Year Seminar Instructors will continue with the planned activities and content, adapted for online as necessary.

This may be welcome news for some of you who have been feeling concerned about COVID-19, or for those who enjoy taking online courses. For some of you this may be very unwelcome news, because you have enjoyed the regular face-to-face social interactions we have been able to incorporate this Fall.

Without a doubt, the change and uncertainty involved in this kind of change can be stressful, so if you need support, please remember that all of us at ESP are here to support you.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Gilbert
Associate Director, CIE
Instructor

Determination bursary: Apply now

ESP/IESP is happy to announce that we have a few winter bursaries available. These bursaries were established to help support students with workshop fees and educational expenses.

What: This is a bursary award of $1000 for the winter term. A bursary is a grant that is awarded based on financial need. Unlike loans, you do not need to repay bursaries. There are five bursaries available.

When: The application deadline is January 15th.

Who: This will be awarded to 5 current ESP/IESP students who are in need of financial assistance this term.

Criteria: Priority will be given to students with strong attendance and academic performance, and who have not received a Carleton University bursary this academic year.

Note: This bursary is intended for students who started ESP/IESP in the September.
