ESP students take first-year credit courses while benefiting from weekly workshops designed to give students the advantage they need to achieve excellence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the end of their ESP year, students who achieve the necessary average across their courses are eligible for acceptance to several degree programs including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/admissions.carleton.ca\/programs\/arts\">Bachelor of Arts<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/admissions.carleton.ca\/programs\/commerce\">Bachelor of Commerce<\/a>*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/admissions.carleton.ca\/programs\/computer-science\/\">Bachelor of Computer Science<\/a>*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/admissions.carleton.ca\/programs\/engineering\">Bachelor of Engineering<\/a>*<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/admissions.carleton.ca\/programs\/science\">Bachelor of Science<\/a>*<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em>*Additional requirements may apply, please see our <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/esp\/program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">program<\/a> page for details. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ESP students enrol in up to three first-year university courses; one core <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/esp\/program\/first-year-seminars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">First-Year-Seminar<\/a> (Fall\/Winter term students) or <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/esp\/program\/first-year-seminars\/seminar-course-outlines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CIED<\/a> (for Winter term students) and two additional first-year introductory credits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/esp\/program\/first-year-seminars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">First Year Seminar\/Core Course<\/a> course helps students develop the reading, writing and critical thinking skills required for university level study while exploring academic subjects in depth. Former ESP students work in the seminar as <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/esp\/program\/mentoring\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">mentors<\/a>, providing transition support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the other two courses, students also attend regular weekly, small-group <a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/esp\/program\/workshops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">workshops<\/a>, where they develop strategies to help them excel. The workshops are designed to develop the skills and habits students need to succeed at university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/esp\/program\/academic-advantage-coaches\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Academic Advantage Coaching<\/a> is additional support offered to students to help them develop skills in reading and writing as well as in other areas such as time management, organization, setting goals and staying focused.&nbsp; The coaches are able to focus on individual students and support their learning in the context of their studies.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ESP students are fully integrated into the Carleton University community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They attend classes along with Carleton University degree\u00a0students<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They participate in all forms of university life (athletics, clubs, societies, etc).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are evaluated according to the same standards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At the end of each course, they are given the same universally recognized university credit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The credit courses that students complete with ESP may count toward their newly-declared degree program.
