SUMMARY:Roundtable: "The EU and Global Economic Governance"
DESCRIPTION:The Jean Monnet Chair in EU External Relations is very pleased to host a roundtable:

The EU and Global Economic Governance

Background: The evolving balance of power in a multipolar world coupled with rapid technological advancements, and increasing geo-politicization of trade, as well as unilateral shifts in trade policies are reshaping global economic governance. In this context, the European Union (EU) is striving to position itself as a strong, cohesive actor on the international stage. This roundtable will bring together academic experts to explore several key topics, including the EU’s shifting role in the global economy, the effects of the Eurozone crisis and Brexit on its contribution to global governance, the EU’s growing trade unilateralism, the increased influence of AI on economic and political dynamics, and transatlantic relations in light of a rising China.

Roundtable Panelists:

Wolfgang Alschner (University of Ottawa)

Eugénia da Conceição-Heldt (Technical University of Munich, will join online)

Patrick Leblond (University of Ottawa)

Amy Verdun (University of Victoria)

Ramūnas Vilpišauskas (Vilnius University and 2024 Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Visiting Scholar at Carleton University)

This is a hybrid event for in-person attendance and online attendance via a Zoom room. For registered in-person attendees, following the conclusion of the roundtable discussion, there will be a networking lunch hosted for attendees of the event.
