The wider Black Sea area is a region where cooperation and confrontation exist concurrently. The achievements and potential of several cooperation opportunities are challenged by existential security threats from the states within the region, which constitute a major problem for establishing a security community. The speaker will offer insight into what type of security community describes the region &#8212; \u00a0nascent, ascendant or mature security community?<\/p>\n<p>Background reading for the lecture is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/14683857.2018.1516333\">available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-813 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/eureast\/wp-content\/uploads\/Photo-of-Mukhtar-Hajizada.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"163\" height=\"163\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/eureast\/wp-content\/uploads\/Photo-of-Mukhtar-Hajizada.jpg 163w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/eureast\/wp-content\/uploads\/Photo-of-Mukhtar-Hajizada-160x160.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 163px) 100vw, 163px\" \/>Dr. Mukhtar\u00a0Hajizada is a visiting professor with the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS) at Carleton University in Ottawa since August 2018. Prior to this, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cies.org\/grantee\/mukhtar-hajizada\">Dr. Hajizada<\/a> was at Harvard University\u2019s Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies\u00a0as a Fulbright Scholar. He received a Jean Monnet Chair from the European Commission in 2014. His\u00a0research and teachings focus on European integration, comparative regionalisms, Black Sea security and regional cooperation, the European Union\u2019s foreign and\u00a0neighbourhood\u00a0policy, research methods, and international relations theory.<\/p>\n<p>This event is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p><em>This event is supported by the Centre for European Studies <\/em><em>Jean <\/em><em>Monnet Chair in \u201cEU Relations with Russia and the Eastern <\/em><em>Neighbourhood<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em><em>\u00a0(EUREAST) which receives funding from the <\/em><em><i><\/i><a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/programmes\/erasmus-plus\/node_en\"><i>Erasmus+ <\/i><i>Programme<\/i><\/a><i> <\/i><\/em><em> of the European Union and by Carleton
