Professor of Political Science and Associate Director of CES, Achim Hurrelmann, will examine the results of the 2013 German Elections.
German voters will head to the polls on September 22. Although Chancellor Angela Merkel enjoys large personal popularity, and most Germans have supported her policies to cope with the Eurozone financial crisis, the survival of Merkel’s centre-right coalition government is not assured. This lecture will interpret the results of the election, and will reflect on its consequences for German and European politics. Can the new German government be expected to make further concessions to resolve the financial crisis? Which tough decisions that have been postponed until after the election will it have to take?
The lecture will be followed by a discussion between a representative of the German Embassy and Professor Hurrelmann.
This event is supported, in part, by a grant from the European Union. It is also supported by the he Embassy of the Federal Republic of German in Ottawa.
