Event poster

For many in the Uyghur community, she is considered a “spiritual mother.”  Madame Kadeer, once a successful businesswoman—one of the richest women in China—and a social activist as well as mother of eleven children, was imprisoned for six years (1999-2005) by the Chinese government. For her activism, she was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and travels the world to raise the awareness of the situation of Uyghur community in China.

Madame Kadeer will speak on the challenges for the Uyghur community in China, which in many ways echo those of Tibet.
