The Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS) is pleased to present:
Long Term Trends in Russian Economic Development: in Comparison with China and the West
With Dr. Vladimir Popov
Dr. Popov will discuss his forthcoming book Mixed Fortunes: Economic History of China, Russia and the West, to be published in April 2014. It gives a non-technical interpretation of the “Great Divergence” and “Great Convergence” stories, explaining why the West started to develop faster than the rest of the world since 1500. It also discusses why China is catching up with the West now, but why Russia is not.
Vladimir Popov is an advisor in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations, a professor Emeritus in the New Economic School in Moscow, and an adjunct research professor in EURUS. He is the author and editor of 11 books on the economics of transition and development, as well as numerous articles and essays in the media.
