McMillan Series: Dr. Jeff Sahadeo “From Tashkent to Tbilisi: Researching the Edges of Empire”

March 19, 2021 at 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM

Location:Online
Cost:Free

On Friday, March 19, 2021, at 12:00 pm EURUS is excited to host the third lecture of the inaugural McMillan Lecture Series, “From Tashkent to Tbilisi: Researching the Edges of Empire,” presented by EURUS Director, Dr. Jeff Sahadeo.

In this lecture, Dr. Sahadeo will discuss his field research and experiences on the edges of the once tsarist empire and Soviet Union.  He will highlight how interactions with local people, with libraries, with archives, even with restaurants, altered his research agenda and led to a deeper understanding of how past and present interact in cities that have evolved from heavily Russian imperial and Soviet power centres to capitals of independent states. Dr. Sahadeo will talk about the excitement and challenges of turning embryonic ideas on empire, cross-cultural exchanges and the environment into finished (or semi-finished) stories and products and will engage a broader discussion about how to do research in Eurasia.

Registration is required for this event. All zoom links will be sent to registrants on the day of the event.
