Dr. Vladimir Popov

Part of a three-part series on the theme “Russian parliamentary and presidential elections: What’s next for the economy, foreign relations, and society?

Dr. Vladimir Popov is currently an Interregional Adviser in DESA and at the United Nations and. He was also a Professor of economics at the New Economic School in Moscow and at the Institute of European and Russian Studies at Carleton University. He has written extensively on various issues pertaining to economics of development and transition. He has authored and edited 11 books and numerous articles in the Journal of Comparative Economics, Comparative Economic Studies, World Development, Post Communist Economies, and New Left Review among others, as well as written essays in the media. His books and articles have been published in Chinese, English, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish.

His most recent book, “Strategies of Economic Development”, was published a few months ago (Moscow, Higher School of Economics Publishers, 2011, in Russian). You can access Dr. Popov’s papers at the following website address: www.carleton.ca/~vpopov.
