Women, Children and Citizens in the Russian Election Campaigns of 2011-2012

March 20, 2012 at 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM

Location:A602 Loeb Building
Cost:Free

The talk will discuss the social context of Russia’s parliamentary elections, held in December 2011, and the presidential elections scheduled for March 4, 2012. The elections have attracted attention because of the unexpected scope of mass demonstrations following the December vote, and the intensity of calls for changes in the country’s political direction. The new climate of Russian politics is not the result of a a sudden overnight change, but instead reflects a gradual evolution of a public discourse on citizenship over the last decade.
