As a region, Europe has a very significant importance in shaping larger global processes and the international balance of power. These factors along with the expanded economic opportunities in the area have allowed for an increase in the demand for area specialists.
A degree in the European and Russian studies provides students with valuable preparation for a career in:

Other students use skills obtained in EURUS to continue on to more specialized training in law, business, and related academic disciplines. EURUS also offers a Master’s program for those who wish to go on to further studies.
Gain Practical Work Experience While Completing Your Studies
To assist in meeting your academic and career goals, EURUS offers a co-operative education option to qualified students in the BA (Honours) program. The co-op program allows students to gain applied knowledge in the workplace in a variety of a government and non-governmental organizations inside and outside of Ottawa. Students who are accepted into the co-op program will begin their placements during the fall term of their third year of study, and must complete at least three work term placements. Qualified fourth-year BA (Honours) students from EURUS are also eligible to apply to the Institute’s internship and co-op programs. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience while earning academic credit.
Exchange Opportunities: Spend a Semester in Europe or Russia
As a student in the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies, you have an exciting opportunity to study abroad in your third or final year. Through Carleton’s International Student Services Office (ISSO), you have access to study opportunities in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, The Netherlands, Poland, the Russian Federation, Scotland, Slovakia, Spain, and Wales. Summer Language Program
Carleton’s Summer Russian Language Program provides students with the opportunity of studying Russian at the University of St. Petersburg. The program runs in the summer for 4-6 weeks. Through this program students can earn up to two full credits towards their degree.
