While current debates about the future of the European Union (EU<\/a>) are dominated by short-term geopolitical considerations \u2013 especially the threats emerging from Russia, China, and the United States \u2013 this event discusses selected longer-term challenges that the EU will need to address if it is to remain relevant as a political actor in governing Europe and in contributing to stability in its neighbourhood. The event is held in the honour of Professor Joan DeBardeleben<\/a> to celebrate her contributions as a longtime faculty member and former director of the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (EURUS<\/a>) and as founding director and current Associate Director of the Centre for European Studies (CES<\/a>). On the occasion of Professor DeBardeleben\u2019s retirement from her faculty position, this roundtable addresses several of her research priorities and brings together some of her closest collaborators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
