Prior to joining the Institute, Laura completed a BA in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uottawa.ca\/faculty-arts\/programs\/undergraduate\/russian-language-culture\">Russian Language and Culture<\/a> at the University of Ottawa. She was drawn to EURUS because of its specific focus on Russia and Eurasia as well as its <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/eurus\/career-and-exchange-opportunities\/\">co-op program<\/a> with the federal government.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During her time at EURUS, Laura completed co-op positions at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/privy-council.html\">Privy Council Office<\/a>. Laura also enrolled in EURUS\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/eurus\/career-and-exchange-opportunities\/\">internship course<\/a>, where she had the opportunity to work at the <a href=\"https:\/\/irb.gc.ca\/en\/Pages\/index.aspx\">Immigration and Refugee Board.<\/a> She found both of these experiences helped in her deciding her future career path. For her cumulative research project, Laura wrote a thesis focusing on the memory of Stalin amongst youth in contemporary Russia and Georgia. Laura spent time working at archives and in focus groups in Georgia to conduct her research.
