Johnson\u2019s Russia List: Compendium of Recent News on Russia<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Johnson\u2019s Russia List, \u201cthe JRL,\u201d has been a favoured source of Russia-related information since it was founded by Editor-in-Chief David Johnson in 1996.<\/p>\n

Online Primary Sources for Russian, Caucasian, Central Asian, Eastern & Central Europe Studies<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The Online Primary Sources database aims to provide researchers and students with sources from Russia, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Eastern and Central Europe put online in recent years thanks to intensive library digitization policies in these zones as well as in the West.<\/p>\n

The database is curated by the Centre for Russian, Caucasian and Central European Studies (CERCEC), in Paris (France). CERCEC is a CNRS-EHESS joint research unit. Read more about CERCEC here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

PONARS Eurasia: New Approaches to Research and Security in Eurasia<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Program on New Approaches to Research and Security in Eurasia (PONARS Eurasia) is a network of over 125 academics, mainly from North America and post-Soviet Eurasia, advancing new approaches to research on security, politics, economics, and society in Russia and Eurasia. PONARS Eurasia offers analysis and influences policy debates through its Policy Memos, Commentaries, Events, Conferences, Workshops, Digital Resources (Videos & Podcasts), and special projects such as Point & Counterpoint and Policy Perspectives volumes. PONARS Eurasia is located at the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (IERES)<\/a><\/strong> at The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Alexander Palace Time Machine <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The Alexander Palace website was created in 1997 as a resource for people who wanted to learn more about the palace of the last tsar, the Romanovs and Russian history. The website contains extensive resources including online books, biographies, archival photos and blueprints, as well as links to other resource centres and libraries that are related to the areas of research the database covers.<\/p>\n

“All the Russias”: NYU Jordan Center Blog<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia was established in 2011 thanks to a generous gift from the family of NYU alumni Boris and Elizabeth Jordan. The mission of the Center is to make Russia intrinsic to all aspects of scholarly investigation: from history to visual culture, literature to economics, anthropology to politics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Central Asian Memoirs <\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

The \u201cCentral Asian Memoirs\u201d project aims to significantly widen the spectrum of Central Asian voices in the historiography of Soviet Central Asia. Due to a dearth of truly consultative sources related to the region\u2019s output of memoirs, most researchers gain access to a limited and essentially random collection of texts from the region. By collecting and digitizing this body of memoirs, this project makes these unique sources available to historiographical enquiry in a systematic and more complete fashion.<\/p>\n

Communal Living in Russia: A Virtual Museum of Soviet Everyday Life<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

This website–and online ethnographic museum–explores and explains a striking social phenomenon: the Soviet “kommunalka,” or communal apartment. Instituted after the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, the kommunalka was a predominant form of housing for generations. This site contains video clips of ongoing communal apartments and their inhabitants, shot in St. Petersburg in 2006, as well as audio interviews, photographs, documents, commentaries, and explanations of many different kinds.<\/p>\n

Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

The Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University presents Gulag: Many Days, Many Lives<\/em>, which immerses viewers in the history of the Soviet Union\u2019s vast system of forced labour camps. Many Days, Many Lives<\/em> presents the history of this system through a browseable archive of video, art, artifacts, photographs, and the life stories of former Gulag prisoners.<\/p>\n

Historical Images of St. Petersburg<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

This website gives a detailed look at the history of St. Petersburg era by era from 1703 to 1991.<\/p>\n

A resource of Soviet and Russian movies all in the Russian language.<\/p>\n

Peripheral Histories? Source Database <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

In light of the suspension of international travel and difficulty of conducting archival research during the pandemic, the Peripheral Histories? team has compiled a list of digital collections and accurate information about ordering archival files remotely.<\/p>\n

Russian History Blog <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The Russian History blog is the venture of a group of academicians who specialize in the region and is an experiment in digital Russian History.<\/p>\n

Sean Guillory\u2019s Russian History Podcasts<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Sean Guillory earned his PhD from UCLA in 2009 in Modern Russian History. He is the Digital Scholarship Curator in the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies<\/a> at the University of Pittsburgh. The SRB Podcast<\/em>\u2019s mission is simple: to provide a space for the many, many interesting thinkers who do amazing work to express their views, discuss their work, and contribute to the larger public discussion on the region. The show also seeks to give the public access to the wonderful and growing body of research that rarely reaches a broad audience but is crucially important, especially as tensions with and in the region flare.<\/p>\n

Seventeen Moments in Soviet History<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Seventeen Moments in Soviet History is an online archive of primary resources. It is a multi-media archive of primary materials designed to introduce students and the general public to the richness and contradictions of Soviet history.<\/p>\n

Soviet Harvard Interview Project<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

The Harvard Project on the Soviet Social System Online provides access to digitized materials selected from the Harvard Project on the Soviet Social System (HPSSS). The digital collection consists chiefly of summary transcripts of 705 interviews conducted with refugees from the USSR during the early years of the Cold War. A unique source for the study of Soviet society between 1917 and the mid-1940s, the HPSSS includes vast amounts of one-of-a-kind data on political, economic, social and cultural conditions. The HPSSS\u2019s value is compounded by the fact that it was compiled in English and organized according to a rigorous social science framework, making it accessible to a broad range of students and scholars.<\/p>\n

Stalin Digitial Archive<\/strong> <\/a><\/p>\n

The Stalin Digital Archive provides unprecedented access to historically significant content and robust online capabilities for research and teaching. The result of years of collaboration between the Russian State Archive of Social and Political History (RGASPI) and Yale University Press, the Stalin Digital Archive (SDA) provides access to primary source materials from Stalin’s personal papers and insightful monographs on communism.<\/p>\n

Stalinka: Digital Library of Stalinalia <\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Stalinka is intended as an online resource for students, teachers, scholars, and anyone conducting research on Stalin\/ism. The online collection comprises visual images of photographs, posters, paintings, banners, sculptures, chinaware, pins, etc. relating to Stalin\/ism organized by the faculty in History and Slavic Languages and Literature departments at the University of Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

Turkestan Album 1871<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Turkestanskii Al\u2019bom (Turkestan Album, or T\u0443\u0440\u043a\u0435\u0441\u0442\u0430\u043d\u0441\u043a\u0438\u0439 \u0430\u043b\u044c\u0431\u043e\u043c) provides a visual survey of Central Asia from the perspective of the Russian imperial government that took control of the area in the 1850s and 1860s. About 1,200 photographs, with some architectural plans, watercolour drawings, and maps, July 3, 2019<\/p>\n
