The purpose of the travel must be clearly related to the European Union, European integration, or Canada-EU relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Grants normally do not exceed $2500, but may be less. Applications will be considered by a selection committee. Whether a grant is awarded and the size of a grant will depend on whether the project meets the criteria outlined, the centrality of the research to the student\u2019s program of study, &nbsp;available funds, whether it is an MA or PhD project, the number of proposals funded, and the committee\u2019s assessment of the needs of the particular project. Each proposal will be considered individually in light of these criteria, and a particular request for funding may be adjusted upward or downward accordingly. It is not anticipated that a grant will cover all research costs in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to be considered in this round of funding, application materials (in hard copy) should reach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><i>&nbsp;Prof. Joan DeBardeleben, Centre for European Studies<br>\nc\/o EURUS, 3304 River Building, Carleton University,<br>\n1125 Colonel By Drive,<br>\nOttawa ON,&nbsp; K1S 5B6<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>*No later than March 4,&nbsp; 2014. Applications for travel before that date will be considered as they are received*<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a condition of the award that the recipient must provide a written report on the use of the funds within four weeks of completion of the travel. Before funds can be dispensed, an indication from your department that the M.A. or Ph.D. thesis proposal has been approved will be required, as well as ethics clearance, if interviews or research involves human subjects. However, you may apply for a grant and receive conditional approval before these conditions are met. Students must be registered in a graduate program to receive the funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If funding permits, a second round of the competition may follow with a due date in late April. However we encourage all prospective applicants wishing to undertake their research work before December 2014 to submit an application by the March deadline, even if the research proposal has not yet received final approval.
