The American Association of Teachers of Slavic and East European Studies<\/strong>
\nAATSEES<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1941, AATSEEL exists to advance the study and promote the teaching of Slavic and East European languages, literatures, and cultures on all educational levels, elementary through graduate school. While the largest proportion of its activities and members concentrate in the area of Russian, AATSEEL has from the beginning stressed that it embraces all Slavic and East European languages, literatures, linguistics and cultures. AATSEEL holds an annual conference in December of each year; its publications include the Slavic and East European Journal (four times a year) and the AATSEEL Newsletter (six times a year).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nFIREES has some good links. One link is to an excellent site on the Russian government, while the others are to a research project on the Eastern Mari and the Central European University Press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aleksanteri Institute <\/strong><\/a>(Helsinki)
\nThe Aleksanteri Institute in Helsinki is the national center for Russian and East European studies. With its proximity to Russia, this center serves as a leading institute in social sciences and humanities for Russian and Eastern European studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

University of Glasgow
\nInstitute of Central and East European Studies<\/a><\/strong>
\nFounded in 1949, ICEES is one of the few centres in Britain specialising in research and postgraduate teaching on Central and East European Studies, including Russia and other CIS countries. The ICEES website hosts the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies (BASEES), the Scottish Society for Russian and East European Studies (SSREES), and the European Centre for Occupational Health, Safety, and the Environment (ECOHSE). The University of Glasgow also hosts the South East European Research Unit (SEERU), a discussion list on socio-cultural and geopolitical issues in southeastern Europe. Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI)
\nDepartment of Russian and Eurasian Studies<\/a><\/strong>
\nWith more than 40 years of experience, NUPI is one of Norway’s leading independent centres for research and information on political and economic issues. The Centre for Russian Studies focuses on three main fields of research: Russian domestic affairs, Russian history and society (domestic politics), Russia’s regions (centre-periphery relations). NUPI’s Centre for Russian Studies maintains an impressive database of information on Russian domestic, regional and political affairs. It has extensive coverage of Russian elections since 1991. The database can be searched by event, person, institution, region, ethnic group, political group\/party, elections and referendums. This site has an extensive and excellent list of links to websites on the internet that provide information on Russia’s elections and many regions. Many links to other universities, Russian search engines, news sources, organizations and government institutions are also available from this site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stockholm School of Economics
\nStockholm Institute of Transition Economics and East European Economies<\/a> (SITE)<\/strong>
\nThis site focuses on the transition from planned to market economies in Eastern Europe and the FSU. Academic research on the site includes a bibliography of recent working papers (1990-present). The site also provides monthly updates of key economic and social indicators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThe Center for the Study of Public Policy<\/a><\/strong>
\nThis Center has undertaken extensive polling on mass behaviour in post-communist societies. The site provides a comparative overview of eleven Russian regions. Data from official government statistics and public opinion surveys are used to compare indicators that measure economic competitiveness, labor market change, and social stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
