This exciting interdisciplinary degree allows students to study Europe, Russia and Eurasia. Europe and Russia have very significant importance in shaping larger global processes and the international balance of power. These factors, along with the expanded economic opportunities in the area, have led to an increase in the demand for specialists in the history, economics, politics, languages and cultures of the region. Program requirements, as well as examples of courses students may take, can be found in the undergraduate calendar.

Taught by top experts in their fields, this specialization allows students to study the history, society, politics, economics, and culture of the region from a multi-disciplinary perspective. The program’s geographic scope is unique in treating Europe, Russia, and Eurasia together, highlighting the considerable social, cultural, economic, and political ties that span the region. Students are able to focus their studies on particular countries, set of countries, or institutions such as the European Union.

Students are also required to fulfill their BGInS language requirement in one of the region’s languages in order to allow them greater depth and understanding of one or more societies and cultures of a particular region. Students will be encouraged to continue to take language courses beyond the minimum requirement, especially if planning to study or work abroad on one of Carleton’s many international exchange opportunities.

Students taking the Europe and Russia in the World Specialization will enrich their understanding of international affairs and global processes gained from their BGInS core courses with specific regional knowledge about Europe, Russia, and Eurasia.

Bachelor of Global and International Studies EURUS offers courses in the specialization of Europe and Russia in the World through the Bachelor of Global and International Studies (BGInS) degree.
