Developing Research Skills

Across disciplines, both undergraduate and graduate students are often required to enrol in research methods courses. Such courses are important in fostering students’ research skills and ability to work with and analyze data. It has been noted that in the past, these courses are often heavy in theory and passive learning, providing little direction in terms of practical skills. Thus, incorporating experiential learning opportunities in research method courses may enhance the understanding and applicability of skills learned among students. Furthermore, many courses that are not statistical in nature require secondary research skills, which can serve students throughout their academic career.
