What is it?<\/h3>\n

Conflict of Interest arises when a person engages in an activity or undertaking that influences university research, education or business for personal gain. Personal gain may result from: direct financial interest, use of university resources for personal benefit, benefit to a family member, receipt of gifts or other material benefits.<\/p>\n

Why is it important?<\/h3>\n

In alignment with the university\u2019s Policy and Procedures Regarding Conflict of Interest and Conflict of Commitment, all members of the Carleton University community, as well as the institution itself will benefit from an approach that encourages external engagement without compromising the institution\u2019s mission and accountabilities.<\/p>\n

Managing conflicts of interest in a procurement process helps ensure that the procurement is fair, open, transparent, and results in procuring what\u2019s best for Carleton\u2019s needs.\u00a0 Each individual involved in a procurement process is bound by the obligations of the university\u2019s Procurement Policy and BPS Procurement Directive Code of Conduct. In addition, each individual involved in the evaluation of competitive procurements through the request for proposal process is required to complete a Conflict of Interest and a Non-Disclosure Agreement.<\/p>\n
