The Department of History offers a rich environment and unparalleled resources for doctoral students. The National Capital Region provides ready access to numerous national museums, federal departments, cultural institutions, and Library and Archives Canada.

The strengths of the doctoral programme are in Canadian history; the history of Women, Gender, and Sexuality; European history; and the history of Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. Ph.D. candidates may be accepted in other areas depending on the availability of appropriate supervision.
