The Psychology Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program gives students the knowledge and experience to launch and lead an independent program of research.

Our faculty and students work in many cutting edge and traditional areas of research, while collaborating closely with researchers from other programs such as Cognitive Science, Criminology, and Human-Computer Interaction.

Some Facts About the PhD Program

  • A program of study and research in the psychology field leading to the degree of Doctorate of Philosophy
  • Strongly research-oriented, although practical courses such as quantitative methods, testing and behaviour modification are available
  • This degree does not offer training in applied areas (e.g. clinical, educational, counseling psychology, etc)
  • This type of training lends itself to a career in academia, work in many different government departments and agencies such as the RCMP, Stats Canada, Department of National Defence etc. as well as private consulting firms.
