All of the reports included cable or chain locks being cut by thieves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of University Safety encourages all cyclists to follow some quick and easy steps to protect your bicycles this summer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1) Consider investing in a \u201cU-Lock\u201d. U-Locks are arguably the most secure way to lock your bicycle. U-Locks are also difficult to cut or break unlike cable or chain locks which can be cut with basic bolt cutters or even small tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2) Always secure your bicycle to a proper bicycle rack in a high traffic area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3) Remove all accessories including seats, bags and lights. Accessories can also be targets for thieves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4) Remove the front wheel and secure it with the back wheel and bicycle frame to the bicycle rack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you know: Carleton University has a secure bicycle compound on campus, conveniently located by the Physical Recreation Centre?
