Come Celebrate Casablanca&#039;s 75th Anniversary with FASS &#038; Film Studies\n                    <\/h1>\n                \n                                \n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Here&#8217;s looking at you, friends of Carleton University\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/filmstudies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Film Studies program (School for Studies in Art and Culture)<\/a> invite you to celebrate the 75<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of Casablanca with a free screening and discussion of the iconic Hollywood film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, the classic wartime melodrama made its debut in theatres on November 26<sup>th<\/sup>, 1942.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As fate would have it, 1942 was also the year a group of visionary citizens opened the doors of Carleton College in Ottawa to students building their careers after the Depression and military service in the Second World War. 75 years later, Carleton University is now a leading post-secondary institution, one that has provided a unique educational experience to more than 145,000 graduates over seven decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-23953\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fass\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/Furstenau-Marc.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23953\"\/><figcaption>Professor Marc Furstenau<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The evening will be hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/filmstudies\/people\/furstenau-marc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Marc Furstenau<\/a>, Associate Professor and Director of the Film Studies program. He will introduce and briefly consider the significance of <em>Casablanca<\/em>. The program will include a Warner Brothers short film and cartoon from the time, as well as excerpts from early Carleton University promotional films.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>We\u2019ll always have the Richcraft Hall Theatre\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Join us at the Carleton Campus Cinema, in the <a href=\"http:\/\/conferenceservices.carleton.ca\/meeting-spaces\/richcraft-hall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Richcraft Hall<\/a> Theatre (room 2200), on Sunday, November 26<sup>th<\/sup> at 6:00 pm \u2013 9:00 pm for Carleton University and Casablanca 75<sup>th<\/sup> birthday festivities. An informal reception will follow the film and discussion. There will be a wine bar, snacks, and, of course, unlimited popcorn will be provided throughout the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All members of the Carleton community and beyond are invited.
