The program, featuring Carleton Alumna and Artist-in-Residence Kellylee Evans and the launch of her newest CD (\u201cCOME ON!\u201d), will be opened by an all-star lineup of Carleton\u2019s jazz students, alumni and Carleton-affiliated jazz artists, including Petr Cancura, Roddy Ellias, John Geggie, MacKenzie and Ben Di Millo, Lucia Villeneuve, Garrett Warner, Kelsey Hayes, The Chocolate Hot Pockets, The Dennis Bass Quartet, Jenny and the Jazzmen and Funktion Avenue<\/strong>. Carleton University Music Department has existed since 1967, and its performance program was introduced in 1975.  In 1991, the School for Studies in Art and Culture \u2013 of which Music is a division, together with Art History and Film Studies \u2013 was formed.  SSAC\/Music currently offers a wide range of innovative courses and programs, including the Honours Bachelor of Music, Honours B.A. (Music) and B.A. General (Music) degrees, the Certificate in Carillon Studies, and the M.A. in Music and Culture.  Carleton\u2019s Bachelor of Music Program was one of the first on the continent to offer performance degrees to students studying a broad range of musical styles, including classical, jazz, Celtic, pop, rock, folk, carillon, singer-songwriter and world musics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kellylee Evans<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Canadian jazz artist and singer\/songwriter Kellylee Evans is a captivating performer whose natural charm and improvisational jazz vocal style have taken her on an extraordinary journey through jazz, soul, pop and hip-hop styles. During the last decade, she has released five solo albums, earned two Juno Award nominations (winning “Best Jazz Vocal Album” for Nina, her tribute to Nina Simone), built large European and North American fan bases, and performed around the world.  In addition to her own marquee performances, she has opened for major artists including John Legend, Dianne Reeves, Derek Trucks, Tony Bennett, George Benson and Willy Nelson. Her recent I Remember When (Mot\u00e9ma Music, 2014) was met with critical acclaim for the way in which she puts her unique stamp on songs by hip-hop royalty Eminem, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dog, Kanye West, and others. Dynamic, hip and modern, her warm, soulful timbre reminds listeners of other true originals of her generation, including Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu. Quincy Jones describes being \u201ctotally blown away\u201d when he first heard Kellylee Evan in 2004, an experience that \u201cstays permanently implanted \u201c in his mind.  Kellylee has served as Artist-in-Residence at Carleton University during both the Winter 2017 and Fall 2017 academic terms, and this evening we are proud to host the North American release of her newest LP\/CD \u201cCome On\u201d!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
