\n Applications for the GINS 3200, Experiential Learning Abroad course are now available!\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n

We invite you to apply for an incredible learning opportunity available to students in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences through the Bachelor of Global and International Studies (BGInS). GINS 3200, Experiential Learning Abroad is a six-week experiential learning course that combines service work abroad with classroom instruction on the Carleton campus. Through in-class preparation, experiential projects, cultural immersion, and critical reflection, students will develop an understanding of the challenges and opportunities inherent in global engagement. For Summer 2018, students will travel to Belize to partner with the Center for Engaged Learning Abroad<\/a> (CELA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s course will focus on indigenous land rights within Belize. In 2015, the Caribbean Court of Justice issued a consent order on the Maya Land Rights Case brought before it. This was a historic ruling for Belize and thesurrounding region, reinforcing land rights for the Maya people. While in Belize, students will partner with CELA Belize and Maya communities in the Toledo district on projects related to the Maya Land Rights case. Specifically, students will be developing and piloting educational materials aimed at communicating and promoting the communities\u2019 visions for the future of Maya land rights. Dr. Chris Brown will be the instructor for this experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This course is open to all undergraduate students with third year standing (by the beginning of the 2018 summer term).<\/strong> Registration for the course does require an application and the deadline to apply is Monday,<\/b> January 22nd<\/sup>, 2018<\/b>. Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible, as applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. While BGInS students are guaranteed some funding to support their trip, all undergraduate students participating in the GINS 3200 course are eligible to apply for the BGInS IER Bursary<\/a>. In 2017, all GINS 3200 students who applied received some funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
