<\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfu.ca\/english\/faculty-staff\/profiles\/david-chariandy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">David Chariandy<\/a> lives in Vancouver and teaches in the department of English at Simon Fraser University.&nbsp;&nbsp;His first novel, entitled&nbsp;<i>Soucouyant<\/i>, was nominated for eleven literary prizes, including the Governor General\u2019s Award and the Scotiabank Giller Prize.&nbsp;&nbsp;His second novel, entitled&nbsp;<i>Brother<\/i>, won the&nbsp;Roger\u2019s Writers\u2019 Trust Award, the City of Toronto Book Prize, and the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize, and was longlisted for Canada Reads, the Scotiabank Giller Prize, the Aspen Words Literary Prize, and the International Dublin Literary Award.&nbsp;&nbsp;<i>Brother<\/i>&nbsp;was also named a&nbsp;\u2018Book of the Year\u2019 by a dozen periodicals including&nbsp;<i>The Globe and Mail<\/i>,&nbsp;<i>The National Post<\/i>,&nbsp;<i>The Toronto Star<\/i>,&nbsp;<i>The Montreal Gazette<\/i>,&nbsp;<i>Kirkus Reviews, Esquire Magazine, and The Guardian<\/i>.&nbsp;&nbsp;His latest book is of non-fiction entitled&nbsp;<i>I\u2019ve Been Meaning to Tell You: A Letter to My Daughter<\/i>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca\/en\/article\/david-chariandy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chariandy\u2019s books<\/a> have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.ca\/authors\/89746\/david-chariandy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">published<\/a> internationally and are being translated into ten languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">Entitled \u201cThe First Semester,\u201d Chariandy\u2019s lecture will explore how his experiences at Carleton shaped his identity and commitment as a writer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"xmsonormal\">The event will be followed by a reception and book
