Congratulations to Julie Tomiak<\/strong><\/a> (<\/strong>Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies<\/strong><\/a>\/<\/strong>Indigenous Studies<\/strong><\/a>) <\/strong>on receiving a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Partnership Engage Grant in the December 2023 competition. The project, in partnership with the Algonquin Nation Secretariat, is titled \u201cAnishinabe Algonquin land, dispossession, and restitution: Developing models and estimates of the value of timber extracted in the lower Dumoine watershed, 1870-1890<\/strong>.\u201d It includes a team of five co-applicants and collaborators, including Carleton researchers Justin Paulson<\/strong><\/a> (co-applicant, <\/strong>Sociology and Anthropology<\/strong><\/a>)<\/strong> and Vivian Hoffman<\/strong><\/a> (collaborator, <\/strong>Department of Economics<\/strong><\/a> and <\/strong>School of Public Policy and Administration<\/strong><\/a>)<\/strong>. The project contributes to the challenge of addressing the dispossession of Anishinabe Algonquin land, and the associated disruption of Anishinabe Algonquin lives and livelihoods, by both the Crown and the Ottawa valley timer industry. It contributes by setting a floor on the value of timber and lumber extracted from the lower Dumoine watershed during the height of the valley’s lumber trade, and forms part of a larger, long-term research partnership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
