The conference is being organized by <a href=\"https:\/\/africaindigenousresearch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Africa Indigenous Knowledge Research&nbsp;Network<\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/africanstudies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Institute of African Studies<\/a> at Carleton University in partnership with Kyambogo University, Kampala, Uganda, with support from the Mastercard Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Africa Indigenous Knowledge Research Network (AIKRN) was established in 2022 in partnership\u00a0with the\u00a0Mastercard\u00a0Foundation as\u00a0a\u00a0consortium\u00a0of\u00a0universities\u00a0and\u00a0Indigenous institutions in Africa to undertake research geared towards identifying, recentering, and harnessing Indigenous knowledge in Africa for creating dignified jobs, and finding sustainable solutions to the challenges of poverty, governance, climate change and sustainable livelihood. AIKRN is aimed at foregrounding the authenticity of African Indigenous knowledge through co-creation, collaboration, and partnership with the custodians of knowledge such as community elders, traditional leaders,\u00a0the\u00a0youth\u00a0and\u00a0other gatekeepers of knowledge and enabling indigenous practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\u00a0conference\u00a0is\u00a0one\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0series\u00a0of\u00a0activities\u00a0designed\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0AIKRN\u00a0under\u00a0the\u00a0ongoing\u00a0project on Unlocking Sustainable Solutions for Employment and Entrepreneurship: Empowering African Youth Through Indigenous Knowledge.\u00a0During this conference,\u00a0participants from different parts of the world will present their papers, listen to young female\u00a0and male entrepreneurs who are already applying Indigenous knowledge in their enterprises, and engage with policymakers and development communities to recentre Indigenous knowledge in policy design for community-oriented\u00a0development\u00a0in\u00a0Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Against\u00a0the\u00a0backdrop\u00a0of\u00a0limited\u00a0success\u00a0of\u00a0various\u00a0policy\u00a0interventions\u00a0both\u00a0at\u00a0domestic\u00a0and global levels to foster equitable and sustainable development, AIKRN conferences represent intentional and deliberate attempts to harness the wisdom and resources inherent\u00a0in\u00a0African\u00a0and\u00a0global\u00a0Indigenous\u00a0knowledges\u00a0to tackle the &#8216;wicked problems\u2019\u00a0of contemporary times such as poverty, extreme inequality, corruption, conflicts, climate change and food insecurity, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;forthcoming&nbsp;conference&nbsp;provides&nbsp;a&nbsp;unique&nbsp;opportunity&nbsp;to&nbsp;directly&nbsp;engage&nbsp;with&nbsp;scholars, the youth, community elders&nbsp;and listen to their desires to apply African Indigenous knowledge in upscaling their enterprises, addressing pressing challenges such as climate change, governance and food insecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The major activities at the conference include a keynote address, plenary sessions, policy roundtables, presentation at panels, exhibition of products made from Indigenous knowledge and high-level meetings among partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outputs from the conference will include edited volumes published from peer-reviewed papers, policy briefs, podcasts and articles in newspapers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further information on the conference is available on the website of <a href=\"https:\/\/africaindigenousresearch.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Africa Indigenous Knowledge Research Network.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>From May 20-22, 2025 hundreds of scholars, community elders, youth leaders and other stakeholders&nbsp;in the&nbsp;development&nbsp;community&nbsp;will&nbsp;converge&nbsp;at&nbsp;the&nbsp;Imperial&nbsp;Beach&nbsp;and&nbsp;Resort Hotel, Entebbe for the maiden edition of the International Conference on Indigenous knowledge systems and restorative development in Africa.
