The FASS Undergraduate Summer Research Internship program is now accepting applications for summer 2018. This initiative invites students to submit a research project that they propose to work on during the summer of 2018, in collaboration with a faculty member in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.  The 1-page research proposal must be supported by a statement from the faculty member who will be supervising the project. Students must also submit their resume, an official transcript, and a 1-page cover letter setting out the project they would like to research and what skills and experiences they hope to gain through this program.

To be eligible, students must have completed at least 2nd year of their undergraduate program and be taking a program and/or a major in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. (If students have two Majors, one of them must be in FASS. Students are only eligible for funding in one Faculty and cannot hold two funded positions in different faculties). Students who are graduating in June are eligible for this program.

Students will receive a stipend of $7500 (this sum includes 4% vacation pay and statutory holidays) over the course of the summer. The expectation is that the research project undertaken will constitute a full-time occupation during the summer term.

In the Fall 2018, students will be expected to give a brief presentation of the research they undertook as well as submit a 2-page abstract of their research that will be compiled into an online proceedings of Undergraduate Student Research 2018.

We expect to be able to fund up to 15 positions this summer.

Please note that students who have received an NSERC-funded Undergraduate Summer Research Assistantship (USRA) for the summer are eligible to apply. The stipend provided by the USRA program will be topped up by FASS so that their stipend matches that of the FASS Undergraduate Research Interns. They should use the same application process, clearly indicating in their cover letter that they have a USRA. They must also make clear how they are designing the research being undertaken in distinction from their supervisor’s research, even if they are interconnected.

Applications should be sent via email to the Associate Dean (Student Affairs), Catherine Khordoc, by March 12, 2018, copying Allyson Buchanan-Watson. (Catherine.Khordoc@carleton.ca;Allyson.Buchananwatson@carleton.ca)
