Learn about the careers you can pursue with the skills and knowledge acquired in Carleton’s Film Studies program. Hear from people working in film and media about how they got their jobs and what advice they can offer students looking for work in these fields.

Bruce Harvey is Film commissioner at the Ottawa Film Office. His responsibilities include bringing new film and TV productions to the region and working with Ottawa’s film and TV production community to expand business opportunities for local producers. Harvey also works with international industry leaders to expand film and TV production opportunities for business throughout the region. At the time of his appointment, Harvey was the owner and senior producer of Illusions Entertainment Corp., a Calgary-based production company he set up in 1990. He produced and co-produced more than 15 film and TV projects, working with partners in Italy, Spain, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and France. His film Almost America won a Genie Award in 2001 for Best Production Design.

GAPC Entertainment’s Senior Producer, Hoda Elatawi, has created award-winning content in Canada and internationally for over two decades. Hoda’s passion for children’s programming, education, history, social issues, and the arts has united her with producers and writers from around the world and allowed her to work on a diverse range of multi-platform projects. Most recently she produced and directed the award-winning documentary, Muneeza in the Middle; developed Wild Stars (series for Animal Planet); and So You Want to Be a Muslim? (doc for CBC’s Doc Channel). In spring of 2018, she and her team will deliver a concept she created for a live action pre-school series, Are You Ready? (for TVOKids and Knowledge Kids).

André Larivière is a Senior Moving Image Conservator at Library and Archives Canada (LAC). A graduate of Carleton’s Film Studies Program, he has over 12 years of experience working with archival film, video and sound collections.  He has worked extensively with motion picture film; processing, timing/colorist (both analog and digital), and conducting conservation work. He has worked on a variety of audio-visual collections, from material created just yesterday, to that created over 100 years ago.

Keltie Duncan is currently the Programming and Technical Coordinator at the Ottawa International Animation Festival, Keltie developed her love of independent animation in Calgary, AB, getting her BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design and assuming a variety of roles with Calgary’s Quickdraw Animation Society (QAS), a non-profit organization for independent animation production and education. During her time at QAS she was a champion of and co-programmer for Calgary’s Giant Incandescent Resonating Animation Festival (GIRAF) and held office as Vice President and President of the QAS Board of Directors. Now living in Ottawa, Keltie has recently completed her MA in Film Studies at Carleton University with a focus on animation festival culture.
