Sevilay Çelenk

Honorary Adjunct Research Professor

Sevilay Çelenk received her doctorate degree in 2003 in Communication Studies from Ankara University, Turkey. She has been to Japan and Germany for study and research purposes. She was a visiting scholar and lecturer at Tallin University, Baltic Film and Media School in Estonia for two years between 2007 to 2009. Çelenk has served for long years as a permanent academic staff member at Radio, Television and Cinema department of Ankara University. She was an associate professor at the same department until January 2017. On this date, she, along with many other colleagues, was dismissed from her post and banned from working in Turkish academia due to signing a statement called “Peace Petition.” Since then, she has continued her academic studies independently.

Her teaching and research experience is primarily concerned with film and media studies, narratives, and sociology of everyday life, through a Cultural Studies perspective. Including her doctoral dissertation which was later published as a book called Television, Representation and Culture, she has written many articles on the interaction of domestic film and television narratives with culture and politics.
