For the purpose of this workshop, “finding oneself” refers to disability representation within the collection as well as navigating the space itself. The workshop will discuss accessibility alongside many of the common themes found within Michael\u2019s workshops including programming, collections processing, physical\/digital archival spaces, training, and equitable hiring practises. The workshop is meant to be collaborative in nature. Michael will also recommend specific action items the AVRC can take to improve institutional accessibility, guided by his lived experience, previous work, and participant collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Michael Marlatt<\/strong> is a disabled film archivist, film programmer, accessibility consultant, and archival producer. He received his PhD from York University\u2019s Communication & Culture program, writing on accessibility barriers in moving image archival education. He publishes, hosts workshops, and gives public talks on disability-inclusion strategies for archives and museums globally. His workshops have been held with government archives, broadcast media archives, museums, film archives, non-profits, universities, and archival professional organisations. Michael is currently the archival producer on the AMI-tv Canadian disability history docuseries History in 60.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
