It gives students the opportunity to put the skills and knowledge they\u2019ve learned at the university into practice, critically reflect on the important work performed by local film and media institutions, and gain additional skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of our students have gotten jobs after graduation based on the experience, skills, and connections they developed during their Internships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>NOTE: Placements in the practicum and internship program are not guaranteed, regardless of availability. You should always enrol in a back-up course in case you are not accepted into FILM 4805 or 5908.<\/em><em><a id=\"opportunities\"><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"opportunities\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Opportunities<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We have Practicum opportunities either already confirmed, being finalized, or currently being explored as new partnerships at the following organizations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FILM FESTIVALS:<\/strong>&nbsp;Asinabka Film &amp; Media Arts Festival (run by Carleton grads!); Canadian Film Institute\/International Film Festival of Ottawa (run by a Carleton instructor!); Ottawa International Animation Festival (run by Carleton grads!); Digi60 Filmmakers\u2019 Festival; ChromaQueer Film and Arts Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>ARCHIVES, MUSEUMS, AND GALLERIES:<\/strong>&nbsp;Library and Archives Canada; Ingenium: Canada\u2019s Museum of Science &amp; Innovation; Carleton Audio-Visual Resource Centre (AVRC); Ottawa Art Gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PRODUCTION\/DISTRIBUTION RELATED:<\/strong>&nbsp;Digital Art Resource Centre (run by Carleton grads!); Independent Film Co-operative of Ottawa (run by a Carleton grad!); Ottawa Film Office; Heliconia; Artengine; Canadian Media Producers Association; DA\u00cfM\u00d4N;&nbsp;GAPC Entertainment.<a id=\"requirements\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"requirements\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Must be registered full-time in the Film Studies MA program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must have completed at least one semester in the MA program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>MA students may only do an Internship for one semester, earning 0.5 credits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The 0.5 credits awarded for successful completion of FILM 5801 will count towards the degree requirements for students enrolled in the&nbsp;<em>coursework<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>major research paper<\/em>&nbsp;streams only. Please check back\u00a0soon).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"application-instructions\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application Instructions:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Consult the available positions posted above and decide on your top three choices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Request an override for the course via Carleton Central.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare a resume tailored to the job description.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Email application form and polished resume to Professor Professor Kester Dyer (<a href=\"mailto:kester.dyer@carleton.ca\"><strong>kester.dyer@carleton.ca<\/strong><\/a>) before the deadline.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the applications have been received, I will suggest a match and forward your application to an institution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the institution is interested, the on-site supervisor will interview you and contact me with their decision.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you are accepted, I will instruct the Graduate Administrator to approve your course override. You should then enroll in the course via Carleton Central.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet with the on-site supervisor to determine your hours and core duties and to fill out the required forms. You must give the completed forms to the Graduate Administrator (SP 423 or email&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:kristopher.waddell@carleton.ca\"><strong>kristopher.waddell@carleton.ca<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;no later than the first week of the semester.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"paid-practica\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Paid Practica<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In certain cases, host institutions offer paid practica.
