Honouring Remembrance Day – On Nov. 11, 2021, Carleton University will honour Remembrance Day virtually. A video commemoration will be posted to the Remembrance Day website and can be accessed via the carleton.ca website and community members are encouraged to watch. As well, flags will fly at half-mast and wreaths will be placed near the flag poles for those who are on campus and wish to stop by to pay their respects. Members of the Carleton community are encouraged to observe a two-minute moment of silence at 11 a.m.
Fall Convocation: The Senate has approved the last group of students to graduate in the class of 2021 – our largest ever at over 6800 strong! Due to current public health restrictions, it will not be possible to hold in-person fall Convocation ceremonies in November, but we will be hosting virtual graduation celebrations for our fall 2021 graduates on Nov. 13 – more details will soon be available on the Convocation website.
Holiday Closure: For the winter holiday season, Carleton University will be closed from Friday, Dec. 24, 2021 through Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022 inclusively, and will re-open on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022. More information is available here
Did You Know? Carleton has a new Office of Risk Management that brings together Emergency Management, Environmental Health and Safety, as well as Risk and Insurance into one department. The structure recognizes the crucial, integrated role that the three offices have played, and will continue to play, in supporting and advising Carleton throughout the pandemic and beyond so as to ensure the safety of our campus community.
Carleton Leader Podcast: Inaugural External Guest: The Carleton Leader Podcast hosts our fist external guest! Amanda Dobbie interviews Jane Ginniver, deputy director of Development at the Accountable Care Partnership, from Sheffield, England. Amanda talks to Jane about the tensions and power of collaborative leadership as well as highlighting the tremendous value of sharing our stories and continuous learning.
Watching for Our Simulated Phishing Emails: During the remainder of the fall term, the Carleton community will begin receiving safe and simulated phishing emails, automatically generated by our systems, to help faculty, staff and students better recognize what a phishing email might look like. These emails are modelled after real-life emails that have arrived in Carleton email inboxes in the past. If you get “phished” and click on a link in the email, you will be taken to an informational page outlining ways to stay safe online. This page is hosted on a Carleton site and will encourage viewers to sign up for our Security Awareness Course, available here.
Importantly, participants, including those who click on links in the simulated phishing emails, are not being evaluated. This initiative is for informational and education purposes only and those who click on simulated phishing links will only be encouraged to learn more about how to stay safe online. Enrol in our Security Awareness Course through Brightspace now to learn more about how to stay cyber secure!
