SUMMARY:Florence Bird 2026 Lecture
DESCRIPTION:The Feminist Institute of Social Transformation warmly invites you to attend the 2026 Florence Bird Annual Lecture, titled Gender Studies Under Siege: Past Struggles, Present Crises, and Possible Futures in Higher Education.

This year’s lecture will take the form of a panel discussion featuring Grace Adeniyi-Ogunyankin (Queen’s University), Gulzar R. Charania (University of Ottawa), and Natalie Kouri-Towe (Concordia University), moderated by Megan Rivers-Moore, Director of the Feminist Institute of Social Transformation at Carleton University.

Together, the panelists will reflect on the histories that shaped gender studies, the political and institutional pressures the field faces today, and the possibilities for sustaining and reimagining feminist, anti-racist, queer, and critical scholarship within and beyond the university. This conversation offers an important opportunity to engage collectively with the role of gender studies in times of uncertainty and transformation.
