We are currently recruiting participants for a new study!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this study is to examine how friends in midlife discuss interesting topics, such as a news media topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the study, you and a friend will answer a few questions about yourself and your friendship in an online survey (~15 minutes). You will then discuss your opinions about a news media article together with your friend over a recorded Zoom call (~15 minutes), and then we will ask the both of you to complete individual follow-up assessments online about how the conversation went (~15 minutes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each participant will be compensated up to $35 CAD (in Amazon gift cards) for their participation in this study. Participants can also withdraw at any time during the study and within one week following study protocol completion (i.e., to request data deletion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We are seeking friend pairs<\/strong> for the study. Thus, if you are interested in participating, you must nominate a friend interested in participating in an online study with you and provide their name and contact information (consult them first). The friend you nominate must be someone you have known for 2+ years (not family or romantic partners), have frequent contact with (talk at least a few times a month), and communicate primarily in English. Additionally, all participants should be between 40-60 years old and have individual access to laptop\/desktop computers that have microphone and web camera capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please note, if you choose to participate in the study, there is the possibility of some discomfort such as negative emotions during the conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This study received clearance by the Carleton University Research Ethics Board\u2013B, Canada (clearance #125531) and is being conducted by Dr. Cheryl Harasymchuk in the Carleton University Psychology Department, Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
