{"id":1584,"date":"2021-10-20T09:32:23","date_gmt":"2021-10-20T13:32:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/its-cuthemedev1.carleton.ca\/foodscience\/?post_type=cu_people&#038;p=1584"},"modified":"2025-08-15T10:34:18","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T14:34:18","slug":"farah-hosseinian","status":"publish","type":"cu_people","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/foodscience\/people\/farah-hosseinian\/","title":{"rendered":"Farah Hosseinian"},"content":{"rendered":"<header class=\"mb-6 cu-pageheader cu-component-updated md:mb-12\">\n    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 pb-5 after:w-10 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px\">\n                    \n             \n                \n            <\/h1>\n\n    \n    <\/header>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hosseinian Group conducts research in the area of phytochemistry\/food biochemistry, focusing on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The extraction and characterization of novel biomolecules (mainly phenolic lipids and their interaction with dietary fibre) from agri-food by-products\/waste;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Investigating their structure-function relationship (biotransformation) in microemulsions\/encapsulations in food and biological membranes (liposomes\/artificial cell membranes);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enhancing antioxidants and anti-inflammatory activity for human health and well-being;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Applying techniques (e.g. fermentation and germination) to reduce anti-nutritional factors in foods;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And developing biomaterails from agri-food by-products\/waste.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These novel biomolecules can have considerable potential for food science, agriculture, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, animal science and health science applications.
