Food sciences integrate knowledge from the disciplines of chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, nutrition, law, and economics. Food scientists work in a highly regulated framework to develop, preserve, process, package, and distribute foods that are safe, desirable, affordable, and nutritious. Professionals with knowledge of the entire food production continuum are needed in all levels of government and industry. Research in food science can contribute in numerous ways to reducing the environmental impacts of food production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"why-chemistry-and-food-science-matter\"
