Discover Food Science at Carleton University<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Improving the sustainability, quality, and safety of food systems is critical to the fight against climate change. Food sciences integrate knowledge from the disciplines of chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, nutrition, law, and economics. Food scientists work in a highly regulated framework to develop, preserve, process, package, and distribute foods that are safe, desirable, affordable, and nutritious. Professionals with knowledge of the entire food production continuum are needed in all levels of government and industry. Research in food science can contribute in numerous ways to reducing the environmental impacts of food production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Food Science program favors a seamless transition from university to career by providing experiential learning opportunities like co-op<\/a> field trips, and research experience. These opportunities, along with the strong relationships between Carleton University and government departments and agencies like Health Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada, give students an advantage when entering the workforce.
