{"id":369,"date":"2021-01-29T13:16:13","date_gmt":"2021-01-29T18:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/foodstudies\/?page_id=369"},"modified":"2025-11-09T17:22:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T22:22:06","slug":"food-processing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/foodstudies\/food-processing\/","title":{"rendered":"Small-Scale Food Processing"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">About the Project<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Community Impact of Small-scale Food Processing<\/strong> is co-led by <strong>Irena Knezevic <\/strong>and <strong>Sandra Mark<\/strong>, the project co-manager with <strong>Small Scale Food Processors Association<\/strong>. Mark has been working in community development for more than three decades and is one of the founders of SSFPA. Knezevic has worked with community food initiatives for over a decade and is overseeing the Carleton University\u2019s Food and Media Hub.<\/p>\n<p>The project explores the contribution small-scale food processors make in the food system in their communities, and documents the wide range of innovation evident in the sector. We are currently gathering data through interviews, literature reviews and environmental scans, and consultation meetings with stakeholders. The findings will be disseminated through webinars, infographics and policy briefs.<\/p>\n<p>We are fortunate to be collaborating with two internationally renowned researchers and their teams:<strong> Kent Mullinix<\/strong> at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and <strong>Mary Beckie<\/strong> at the University of Alberta. Mullinix is the Director of the Institute for Sustainable Food Systems and an expert on bioregional food systems.
