Clare Beckton, Executive Director, Centre for Women in Politics and Public Leadership

Carleton University’s Centre for Women in Politics and Public Leadership has been named one of the top 100 organizations to receive the 2016 BPW Canada Centennial Recognition Award in honour of 100 years of women’s suffrage.

“We are honoured by the recognition of the work of the Centre in helping to advance women in our Canadian society and elsewhere, ” said the centre’s founding Executive Director Clare Beckton.

The non-partisan centre “promotes equitable representation of women in democratic institutions at all levels of government and in all positions of leadership within public, private and nonprofit sectors.”

Specifically, the centre:

  • Produces scholarly research and op-eds
  • Collaborates and partners with political parties, governments, universities, and private sector
  • Offers advancing women in leadership programs
  • Works with international organizations to provide culturally relevant education

The 2016 BPW Canada Centennial Recognition Award will be awarded by the Canadian Federation of Business and Professional Women at a reception in Calgary on August 13.
