The Day After: The 2016 U.S. Presidential Election and What it Means for Canada-U.S. Relations: a post-election public event on November 9th.
It’s been one of the most contentious, no-holds-barred campaigns in recent history and on November 9th, faculty in the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) will sit down with a colleague from south of the border to analyze what happened, why and what’s next.
Featured speakers will include:
- Chris Kirkey, director of the Center for the Study of Canada and professor of Political Science, State University of New York College at Plattsburgh,
- Meredith Lilly, professor and Simon Reisman Chair in Trade Policy at NPSIA, Carleton University,
- Stephen Azzi, professor of Political Science, Carleton University,
- Michael Hawes, professor and president of the Fulbright Foundation of Canada.

The panel discussion will examine what this U.S. presidential election means for Canada and Canadians. The panel will discuss important topics such as implications for American foreign policy, impact on trade agreements such as NAFTA, rising anti-globalization sentiment, Canadian energy exports and how Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister Stéphane Dion must do things differently in negotiating with the new president, among others.
