PhD Student Explores Popularity of Heavy Metal Music in China

Yili Zhou is a student in Carleton’s political science department.

Growing up in China, Yili Zhou was always intrigued by the popularity of heavy metal music. With the help of her thesis advisor and renowned China expert Jeremy Paltiel, Zhou is pursuing a PhD in Political Science that focuses not only on heavy metal, but on what it represents in terms of international relations theory and politics in China.
