Chris Braeuel, who received a Master of Arts in Public Administration in 2000, was awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers by Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson, on behalf of Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette, Canada’s Governor General.

The honour is awarded to individuals in Canada who have made significant, sustained and unpaid contributions to their community in Canada and abroad.

A statement on the Governor General’s website said of Braeuel, “For over a decade, Chris Braeuel has applied his skills in international development as a volunteer with such organizations as Cuso International, CanUgan Disability Support and the Society for International Development. As a member of the Ottawa Tunis Shriners Clowns since 2012, he raises funds and brings laughter and smiles to families.”
