Fall 2020
IPAF 1001 A: Education, Gender & Equality [0.5 credit]
Understanding sex, gender and sexuality and the ways that it has been used to stereotype, subjugate and control others is key to appreciating the importance of quality education, gender equality and reducing inequality. We will study cases that expose students to the different perceptions and assumptions from Plato to cyberspace and explore the ways different cultures and religions visualize gender and equality and open a dialogue on the use of language, attitudes and commentaries that lead to power imbalance and dominance over others.
Winter 2021
IPAF 1001 B: The Hunger Games [0.5 credit]
Poverty, hunger and ill-health act together and in unison to reduce economic growth, undermine social cohesion, increase political and social tensions and feed instability and conflict. They also both conflict with and generate opportunities for business. The Hunger Games exposes students to the challenges of poverty, hunger and poor health and highlights the political, social and entrepreneurial ways to confront these challenges and be a force for good or an opportunity for business.
Both courses will be taught by Dr. Alastair Summerlee
