Principal Economist, Bank of Canada

Biography

Degrees from Carleton: MA and PhD in Economics

Current role:  Principal Economist, Bank of Canada

Length of time in this role: 2 years +

Snapshot of your work duties:

My department provides timely analysis of current and prospective economic developments in foreign countries and their implications for Canada. This task is often aided by a suite of models used for structural macro-policy analysis and forecasting the global economy. Part of my job is to develop, maintain, and provide user-training for such a suite of models. The remainder of my job is to expand the Bank’s understanding of the fundamental workings of the global macro-economy, and conduct long-term publishable research on issues relevant to Central Banking in a global economy.

Current work projects:

At any time, I will find myself working on several projects ranging from immediate policy analysis to long-term publishable research. Currently, I am working on a note using simulations from our structural models to analyze the impact of US policy on the remainder of the world and Canada. I am also working on two long-term research projects: one aimed at enhancing the profession’s understanding of the effect of alternative monetary policy frameworks, and another aimed at understanding the effect of exchange rate changes on Canada’s exports.
