Sarah Douglas
Senior Director, Government and Stakeholder Relations, Chamber of Marine Commerce
Biography
Degree from Carleton: Master of Political Management (2014)
Other Degree: Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences with specialization in political studies (University of Ottawa, 2013)
Current role: Senior Director, Government Relations at the Chamber of Marine Commerce
Length of time in this role: 1.5 years
Snapshot of your work duties:
I lead the Chamber of Marine Commerce’s lobbying efforts, focused on the federal government and the Ontario government. I advocate on behalf of my member’s interests for a strong and vibrant marine transport sector in Canada, for good jobs and encouraging the switch to marine transportation to lower emissions.
Some days I am meeting with MPs, other days I appear before House and Senate committees, I write CMC submissions to regulatory consultations, I meet with departmental officials on programs and policies, or I go on ships and visit ports to learn more about the sector – no two days are the same!
Current work projects:
I am currently working on CMC’s awareness efforts with new MPs after the federal election, as well as working on developing our position in response to a federal government consultation on new regulations under the Pilotage Act.
More About Me:
I’ve been a lobbyist since 2014, after I graduated from Carleton’s MPM program, first working in the pharmaceutical sector before moving onto transport.
Before that, I worked on the hill from 2008-2013, as a legislative assistant to numerous MPs and leaving the hill as a press secretary to the Leader of the Official Opposition.
While Ottawa is my home now, I was born and raised just outside Toronto. I also speak French and Italian.
