Jeni Armstrong joins the Clayton H. Riddell graduate program in political management after spending four years in government, first as lead speechwriter for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and later as director of communications for former Finance Minister Bill Morneau. She played a key role in writing and editing the last four federal budgets and also “held the pen” on the Liberal Party’s winning election platforms in 2015 and 2019.
“I’m excited to be able to share everything I’ve learned from my 20+ years in communications,” Armstrong says. “Teaching online isn’t easy, but the curiosity and hard work that I see students putting into their courses inspires me every day.”

This year, Armstrong is teaching strategic communications, media relations, an introduction to political management, and a capstone seminar in public affairs and policy management that is looking at issues surrounding online platform governance. “I’m really enjoying the capstone course,” Armstrong says. “The fact that we’re dealing with a topic where the rules seem to change on a daily basis was daunting at first, but what better introduction can there be to the real-world challenges of doing policy work?”
Earlier this year, Armstrong launched The Kids Write, a website aimed at helping children around the world tell their stories about life under COVID-19.
